Fast Growing Evergreen Spacing forPrivacy Hedge

Best Plants Along Privacy Row of Arborvitae and Cypress

If you planted a row of evergreens such as Green Giant or American Pillar Arborvitae or Murray Cypress, you are on your way to enjoy your property even more and without needing to worry about your neighbors.

But apart from privacy some folks will push for adding more color. While such demand will add extra work, it can be accomplished with minimal effort and maintenance and can also make you look like a master gardener.

Our best choices:

Hydrangea:

Limelight: beautiful big white flowers which last from mid Summer to mid Fall. Hardy plant, resistant to most diseases, no need to do anything apart from water it along with the other plants and fertilize it occasionally.

Penny Mac / Endless Summer: big pink or blue flowers, depending on soil/water PH. While the flowers only last about 2-4 weeks, the bushes will bring several batches of flowers in a growing season and so virtually almost always covered with flowers.

Hosta: A lot of good varieties to choose from, beautiful leaves and flowers. Generally disease resistant, although may benefit from being sprayed a handful of times with fungicide. We are partial to Blue Angel, but there are a lot of great genetics to chose from.

Dapple Willow: They are extremely fast growers, wants to grow into a bush but can be shaped into a small tree. Pink leaves in the Spring and red stems in the Fall. Can be utilized to create privacy while the evergreens are maturing and later cut back to a smaller size.
