The typical prerequisites maybe:
- Grows fast
- Evergreen and without shedding large leaves
- Stays around 15-20 feet height or easy to manage the height
- Very low maintenance
- Diseases and deer resistant
- Columnar or skinny shape as to not encroach on turf or play space
- Cold tolerant for various climates, including USDA Zone 6 or colder
The beast variety which satisfies all these requirements is the American Pillar Arborvitae Thuja. If it is not available due to high demand, the Green Giant Arborvitae are also a worthy choice.
There are other good choices to consider, but none which would satisfy the above requirements.
