Fast Growing Evergreen Spacing forPrivacy Hedge

Green Giant Arborvitae Thuja for Privacy: Site Preparation

Are there large trees and bushes in the way?

Remove most if not all, leave only the larger trees which provide existing privacy and prune them hard.

Is there a standing water issue or an opportunity/need to create immediate privacy with a mound?

Creating a mound with a skid steer is a good immediate privacy step and will help solve flooding water issues. Should consider where the water will flow after building the mound. Works best at new construction sites or less densely populated areas.

Are there utilities in the ground?

Call 811, it is simple and free or have the person doing the planting call it for you.

Poor or heavy clay soil?

Often an issue in OH & KY. Ask your planter to add leaf compost or aged manure or supply them with it or spread it around the trees after and add fertilizer several times a year.

High wind?

Not an issue for Arborvitae Thuja.

Unpleasant & complicated neighbor?

At times it makes sense to give extra space from the property boundary so there is less temptation to harm your trees.

Near major highway and salt truck traffic in Winter?

So far we have not encountered the issue where changing soil PH from salt would hurt the trees.
