Privacy Hedge: Penny Mac Hydrangea

While 80% of the trees we plant for privacy are the Green Giant Arborvitae, at times we get a request for other plants as well.

Penny Mac Hydrangea is a shade to semi shade loving hydrangea that adds a lot of color to any property and plant lineup. It is generally carefree and produces fist size flowers 2-3 times a Summer. In most years it does not require any spraying with insecticides.

The color of the flowers can be blue or pink, depending on the acidity of the soil and the water.

From a privacy strategy, it adds color to a green wall of thujas or cyprus, softens the intent to block out the view and shifts the focus to the beauty of the flowers.

It is not a necessity, but it fulfills an important purpose.
