Also known as "thuja," arborvitae trees are one of the best choices for privacy landscaping. They're fast-growing, hardy, and relatively low-maintenance. Plus, they offer year-round interest with their dense evergreen foliage. The Green Giant arborvitae is a particularly good choice for privacy screening, as it can grow up to 3 or 4 feet per year and reaches heights of 25 feet or more. This tree is deer resistant.

We typically recommend planting the green giant about 5ft apart providing the fastest growing green privacy fence. This puts the trees at about 25ft tall and 6ft wide at maturity.

Planting & Care:

  • The green giant arborvitae needs proper watering and care because its growth is mainly based on how well it is grown in favorable conditions.
  • During the two to 3 months, it needs daily water because these months are essential for its growth.
  • The green giant arborvitae needs a minimum of four hours of direct sunlight for proper growth.
  • These plants grow well in the spectrum form of light, which includes full sun and partial shade.
  • The best tip for the effective growth of green giants is important to keep the soil moist but not oversaturated.
  • It needs fertilizers such as 10-10-10 to the soil once or twice a year. If you choose to fertilize your Thujas, do so in the early spring (after the final frost of the season) and/or in the early fall.

When you decide to grow a green giant arborvitae; it is helpful to know how to care for the plant.

You will need soil that is moist but not oversaturated, sunlight, and fertilizer. This will ensure your plant will grow well and remain healthy overall.

Green giant arborvitae is a fast grower, which means it needs constant care, especially during the first two months of its growth. This is an effective way to keep the plant from getting all these diseases and pests.

Drip Irrigation is the most efficient method of watering today

  • 1. The drip irrigation system can save you 30-70% on your water bill.

  • 2. Save water- less runoff & evaporation

  • 3. Improve growth & discourage weeds- water targeted to root ball

  • 4. Save money & time- add a timer to your system to do all the work for you.

The dripline is a thin plastic hose running on top of the ground along the trees, with one end tied and the other end receiving a coupling to connect the dripline to a garden hose.

Regular watering will assure the abundant growth of your trees and will save you money and time.
