Weeping Willow and Dappled Willow Growth Update
We are covering a big order for Spring 2025 for several thousand Weeping Willow and Dappled Willows for a flood zoned land mitigation effort. The trees and shrubs will be planted along the creekside to give the property privacy and later the embankment slightly built up to keep the creek from overflowing during heavy rains.
Both Willow varieties show a maximum growth around 24” in mid May in Kentucky. A bulk of the new growth is around 12-18”. Unlike the Conifers, the Willows keep on growing throughout the Summer as long as there is plenty of water to access. Their growth rate will more than double near standing water.
While Willows can help mitigate flood problems and land erosion, it is a good idea to study the issue in detail as the regulations around impacting creeks and neighboring land is complicated and there is plenty of government oversight involved. Also other involved parties may see an opportunity to make claims.
Yet a property removed from the flood zone will instantly be 10x in value or at least by some similar magnitude.
