How to Fix Ugly Old Emerald Green Arborvitae
We guide all of our customers away from Emerald Green Arborvitae as much as possible. They do not age well as they have multiple stem leads which leads to an open crown as the trees approach maturity. Also, they have poor disease tolerance and are not deer resistant.
In the photo below they were also planted in shade, so while they survived many years, they never really grew past 6-7’ height before opening up. At one point a main lead stem died out and thereby exposing the bald center of the tree.
With aging ugly evergreens the best choice is usually to replace them with fast growing and beautiful varieties. About 80% of homeowners choose to go with the superior genetic Green Giant Arborvitae or the Murray Cypress and they will never have to worry about ugly privacy trees in their yard.
Looking like a master gardener with minimal effort is a benefit to most homeowners with limited time on their hands.
