Late Winter Care of Mulch Beds - Privacy Evergreens
Mulching around trees is important, especially so for newly planted evergreens, such as Arborvitae, Cypress or Pines.
Often by the end of the Winter weeds abound in the mulch beds around our shrubs and trees.
Evergreens absorb water and continue to absorb sunlight even during the Winter, although at a much slower rate than in the Summer. A thick layer of mulch assures steady availability of moisture for the trees, heats up faster on a sunny day, breaks down into plant food overtime and attracts beneficial microbes.
Importantly, it also makes it much easier to weed. Either by pulling the weeds up or chopping them with the weed eater.
However, most of us just want our homes and gardens to look Pinterest worthy and weed for that reason alone.
